Description

Long comments ahead, you don't have to read them, it's just me rambling a bit. Just please read beloved as two syllables, 'be-lov'd'. That way every line in that poem is exactly seven syllables. :)

Ever say to yourself, "I'll just work on this drawing a little bit longer then go to bed" then suddenly it's 4 am and you realize that faint sound in the background is the call to morning prayer? Then run to bed only to wake up an hour and a half later because your brain wouldn't stop working and you had to get a poem out of your head? Yeah, it was a long night. Uhh... morning. =p

In case you can't read that poem to the side, it says:

To all listeners of stories
Has any one of you heard
About Melancholetta
The saddest girl in the world

Poor Miss Melancholetta
Was once called Miss Melanie
But when her belov'd bird died
She sank into misery

Neither a joke delightful
Nor an anecdote absurd
Would stop Melancholetta
From mourning her dear dead bird

Each night she'd light a candle
And let her grief flood the room
So that any who came close
Would be swallowed by her gloom

Now no one dares go near her
No one dares to breathe a word
About Melancholetta
The saddest girl in the world

Anyway, this is my entry to contest held by *Muchacha10 and the rules and entries can be found here:[link]
The rules were that it had to be Tim Burton inspired, so here's my pieces of inspiration.

Alice in Wonderland (haven't actually seen it yet)
As much as I adore Lewis Carroll's stories, I love his poetry even more. The name was taken from his poem Melancholetta. A story about a brother taking about his gloomy sister.

Vincent
As my profile page said, I love rhymey things! This short is actually one of my favorite things Tim Burton did. I mean, who doesn't love Vincent Price? The rules said I had to add a character bio, so I decided to do it in verse.

The Corpse Bride
I tried to take elements of the drawing style from that movie. The design of Melancholetta was mostly based of Emily. I also took the idea of a Victorian setting.

Sweeney Todd
I think Green Finch and Linnet Bird is my favorite song from that movie. I took the idea of a girl attached to her pet bird. I was originally going to draw a bird in the cage, since I always thought that there was few things sadder than a caged bird. But then I showed my lineart to my mom, who said the cage looked more like a street lamp. I thought "Okay, I can work with this... " And decided that she turned the empty cage into a candle holder to constantly remind her of her loss.

And now for my resources:

Wish me luck everyone! :)
